A Midsummer Night's Dream (Act 1 , SCENE 1)
ACT #1 , SCENE #1
In act 1 scene 1, Theseus (duke of Athens) and Hippolyta (queen of the Amazons) are talking about their wedding day in just four days as they are very excited.
Later after Theseus finished his conversation with Hippolyta. Egeus came to ask Theseus for some advice as her daughter , Hermia who refuses to marry the man her father has chosen for her, Demetrius who is in love with Hermia and wants to marry her. But Hermia wants to marry Lysander as they are both in love ; therefore she refused to marry Demetrius. But Theseus explains to Hermia that she must listen to her father and marry a worthy gentleman like Demetrius. But no matter how or who explains Hermia , she still wants to marry Lysander and is not stressed as she want her father to see things her way. Hermia begs her father, Egeus to become reasonable . But instead of letting Hermia marry the man she loves , he told Hermia that she can either marry Demetrius or choose to die and that he will give Hermia until the wedding day to decide.
Everyone later left the sence , except for Hermia and Lysander. They were so much in love that they wanted to find another way ti get married without getting killed.Lysanderil suggested to run away to his widowed aunt ( a rich elderly lady) and get married at her place. As Lysander's aunt lived about twenty miles from Athens , they agreed to secretly meet up in the woods about three miles outside the town.
Next, Helena (in love with Demetrius) walks in the scene comes in anger and envy as she is anoyed that Hermia such beauty to make Demetrius fall in love with her , so she askes Hermia to teach her on how to make Demetrius fall in love with her. And to prove that Hermia does not have any interest on marrying Demetrius , she decides to tell Helena about about the secert plan about her marriage with Lysander and told Helena to not tell the plan ti anyone. But Helena chose.to net keep the secret as she was blinded by the thought of Demetrius turning his love to her as he will see himself that Hermia in not interested on marrying him at all.
